On April 29, 2026, Umoja People with Disabilities (UPD) organized a Mental Health Wellness Workshop aimed at promoting awareness, inclusion, and community well-being.
The session brought together 30 participants from diverse backgrounds, including persons with disabilities, adults, and members of the wider community. This diversity created a rich environment for learning, sharing, and mutual understanding.
The workshop was guided by the theme:
“Promoting Mental Health Wellness and Building Resilient Communities.”
Mental health remains an important yet often misunderstood topic in many communities. Stigma, lack of awareness, and limited access to information continue to prevent individuals from seeking help and support.
This workshop aimed to address these challenges by:
- Raising awareness about mental health and wellness
- Encouraging open and honest conversations
- Promoting acceptance and inclusion
- Supporting individuals in understanding their mental well-being
Participants actively engaged in discussions, shared experiences, and explored practical ways to care for their mental health and support others.
At Umoja People with Disabilities, we believe that mental health is for everyone. Creating inclusive spaces where people feel safe to speak, learn, and grow is key to building stronger and healthier communities.
Through initiatives like this, Umoja People with Disabilities continues to play an important role in breaking stigma and promoting mental health awareness across Malawi.
